Independence Day at the Office ....
[The Office Potluck - Celebrating India's Independence Day]
...so the much talked about 'pot luck' at Ashland Ave office did finally happen! The idea had come about after someone (i.e. Aloke Nandy) wondered - 'what if everyone in the office wore Indian clothes on the 15th' (for a more authentic feel, add his bangla accent to the thought)...
..so one thing led to another and a group formed around this central idea and after initial discussions this 'organizing comittee' decided that it would be a lot more effective if we have folks cook food rather than just collect money from everyone at the office any buy it. This turned out to be a remarkable decision as the variety made all the difference!
[The Starters Table]
There were about 67 different food items along with a table where 'fresh' lassi was whipped up on demand. The lines were getting bigger by the minute ...and some folks even retorted to the 'this is a good logistical problem' line and eventually solved it too. The Indians in the room were actually hawking and selling the products they'd cooked and the Americans seemed to enjoy the food and the attention immensely!
[ The 'lassi' makers ]
When it was all over, the event had lasted for 3-4 hours and every one got to eat atleast a couple of helpings if not more ....boy was it slow after that! The entire building seemed so quiet and everyone seemed to be resigned to their seats, except for some who made a few rounds to the coffee machine....
